Zumba Fitness Instructor – part time

POSITION SUMMARY: The group fitness instructor provides enjoyable, high quality and safe group exercise classes to YMCA members.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leads group classes, as directed by the supervisor to accomplish YMCA mission and goals.
  2. Conducts energizing, fun, safe and educational classes.
  3. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other.
  4. Ensures safety of class participants by following group fitness best practices as well as report any accidents, concerns, equipment troubles to supervisor immediately.
  5. Keeps accurate attendance records.
  6. Participates in and solicits others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  7. Maintains certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
  8. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  9. Adheres to all policies and procedures of J Smith Young YMCA.
  10. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
  11. Attends instructor meetings.
  12. All other duties as assigned by the Fitness Coordinator and Executive Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma/GED
  2. Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
  2. YMCA Group Fitness Instructor Certification (or AFAA or other Group Fitness Certification approved by the Programs Director).
  3. Certifications in areas of expertise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and repetitive motions.

EFFECT ON END RESULT:

The effectiveness of a successful Group Fitness Instructor will be to provide a positive class experience which is fun, safe and introduces new skills, promote personal growth for participants and shows steady growth and retention of program participants.
