Aquatics

Youth ages 8 & up may be in the pool without an adult IF they can swim without aid as determined by the lifeguard.  Their parent/guardian must be at the YMCA.  Anyone under age 8 as well as those over age 8 who require a swimming aid (as determined by the lifeguard) must be accompanied by a parent or adult age 19 or over.  The child must be within arm’s reach of the adult at all times.  The ratio of adults to children is as follows: children ages 6-8, 3 children to 1 adult; children 5 and under, 1 adult per child.

Swim Lessons

Adult & Child Lessons

Adult & Child Lessons are formatted to build the comfort level of the child around water while also continuing to grow the relationship between the adult and the child participating. This class helps to make water interaction with your young participant a positive and comfortable experience with trained instructors leading all adult/child duos. Games, songs, rhymes, and toys make this class a great introduction to being around water for younger children.

Next sessions:    Session 1:   March 10 – March 17          Session 2:  March 24 – March 31                                                                     Session 3:   April 7 – 14                          Session 4:  April 21 & 28

Group Lessons

Each class will be following a set curriculum. Our instructors will be handing out report cards on the last day of classes so that you are able to see what your child is doing well on and what they might need more practice on. The goal of each class is to have top marks in all areas before moving on to the next group class level. Depending on each session’s turnout, there may be an experienced pike with new starfish participant. If your little swimmer is able to do everything in our top offered class level then a good option to consider would be private lessons.

Adult Aqua Fitness Classes

Whatever your favorite workout—be it Zumba, spinning, yoga, or jogging—you can now do it in a pool near you. And it’s not just for show.  By getting your sweat on in the water, you eliminate the joint-jolting and tiring impact of many exercises while adding all-over resistance for greater strength and weight-loss gains, according to the Stockholm University College of Physical Education and Sports.  Bonus: People who do pool exercises enjoy their workouts more than those who stick to dry land, per research from Baylor University Medical Center.

Note:  Non-members use the family program participant locker rooms, not the adult member’s locker rooms.

The following classes are free for members.

Water Fitness       Mon/Wed/Sat 9:00 a.m. & Mon/Tu/ Thu 10:00 a.m.

A shallow water medium intensity workout that encompasses cardio, strength and tone movements, resistance training, and fun all in a one hour session.

Water Choice      Tues. & Thurs 9:00 a.m.
