Active Lives for Older Adults
Today’s seniors are more health conscious than ever before. At the Y we’ve made the health and fitness of our senior adults a top priority by providing programs for the spirit, mind, and body. Through group exercise classes, aquatic programs that focus on flexibility and mobility, guest speakers, social events, and field trips, our Y is bringing Active Older Adults together for fellowship and fun!

SilverSneakers®
SilverSneakers® is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. As one of the largest senior-focused exercise programs in the United States, this partnership allows eligible members of some health plans to obtain YMCA memberships at no cost. To qualify for a free membership, you must be a Medicaire-eligible member of a health plan that offers the SilverSneakers Program.
Water Aerobics
This water class is specially designed to improve joint flexibility, muscular endurance and range of motion while reducing joint pain and stiffness. Perfect for the older participant but any age adults are welcomed!
Pickleball
If you’ve played tennis you can play Pickleball! Pickleball is a racket sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net.
There is no registration or fee – just show up and play! (Days & times dependent on participation)
Evidence Based Health Interventions
Evidence-based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs deliver community-based health and wellness services in innovative new ways rooted in a common commitment to preventing and combating chronic disease. These programs are open to all, not just current YMCA members. Registration is required to take advantage of these different programs that help our community become healthier and have a higher quality of life.
Better Balance: Build strength, improve balance, and gain confidence in your mobility through this program using slow, therapeutic movements based on Tai Chi.
Walk with Ease: This program includes health education, stretching exercises, and motivational strategies to help participants begin walking regularly, starting at 5 minutes per session and slowly increasing in time and endurance.
Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention: Based on the Sun style of tai chi, Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention (TCAFP) is easy to learn, effective and safe. It improves flexibility, muscle strength, increases heart/lung activity, aligns posture, and improves balance. One of the great aspects of Tai Chi is its integration of the mind and body, helping to relax the body, improve cognitive functions, and relieve stress.
Rock Steady Boxing: Rock Steady Boxing seeks to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease through a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum. This is an ongoing program hosted by the YMCA; fees are determined by Rock Steady boxing.
