At the Y, we are focused on youth development and teaching the life skills necessary for children and teens to become active and responsible adults. We hope to accomplish this through our many programs by developing self esteem and good sportsmanship.

•Basketball: Co-Ed Leagues  (Partnership with Lexington Parks & Recreation)

Age Divisions:  5 – 6 / 7 – 8 / 9 – 12

The J. Smith Young YMCA seeks to promote participation in youth sports by providing an atmosphere in which players can grow, learn, and experience the joy of youth sports.  We do this in a fun, non-threatening environment.  Our youth sports programs place emphasis on the following concepts: fun, participation, fitness, skills, teamwork, fair play, and the use of volunteers.  The incorporation of these elements allows the YMCA to provide wholesome, value-oriented programs for our youth.  Our goal is that YMCA youth sports programs allow every child to be a winner.

•Girls Volleyball Clinic

Entry level volleyball skills & drills for youth girls in grades 4-8 who are interested in learning the game of volleyball. This camp is designed to teach & enhance skill levels needed to participate in competitive volleyball.  There will be a two hour session of instruction in individual skills, team concepts & strategies, and the finer points of the game of volleyball.

Date: Saturday morning, February 10, 2018

Time: 8:30 – 10:30 am

Cost: Pre-Register Member: $25    Potential Member: $30

Late registration – Day of Camp:  $3


Ballet, Tap & Gymnastics

Our Ballet, Tap & Gymnastics program provides an opportunity for children to develop both physical skills for a healthy lifestyle and personal skills to succeed in school and work,  all while laughing and playing with a group of their peers. Parents can stay or leave the YMCA during the program knowing that their children are in a safe and loving environment. Children enjoy a warm atmosphere in which they have the opportunity to function in a structured setting. Activities will include ballet, tap and gymnastics.  Children can participate in both sessions or pick and choose sessions at your convenience.

Dates & Times

4-6 year olds: Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm

7-9 year olds: Tuesdays 5:00-6:00 pm

10 and up: Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 pm

Sessions will be offered September -November and January-April.  You can sign up for every month or pick and choose from month to month.  Pre-registration is REQUIRED so that we can have enough supplies for all participants.

Fees per Session

Member:  $20 per session

Non-Member:  $30 per session  

Multiple child discount provided. Children must be registered in advance. Space is limited – please register early.

  • Games will be played primarily on Tuesday evenings
  • Minimum of 6 players / Max. of 12 on roster
  • Games are best of 3 w/ rally scoring

Boxing, Conditioning & Circuits

Classes are now available Thursday nights at 6:30 pm in the training room with Andrew and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm in the studio with Wes. Come out to try out a brand new fitness format and for a great workout!
Classes are FREE for members. Non-members can try a class with the purchase of a day pass.


If you’ve played tennis you can play Pickleball!  Pickleball is a racket sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two, three, or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. 

There is no registration or fee – just show up and play!
